Historic Town of Oakland
Oakland is the county seat
of the Garrett County,
Maryland and the most
populous city in Garrett
County. It is a city with a
population of 1,930
according to the 2000
census. The city is part of
the Pittsburgh DMA, and is
situated in the west middle
of the county, only miles
from the source of the
Potomac River, which flows
into the Chesapeake Bay. It
is also near the Wisp Resort
at Deep Creek Lake, a major
ski resort for many
Marylanders and other
visitors. Oakland was
incorporated in 1862. The
Autumn Glory Festival, a
fall festival that attracts
a great amount of tourists,
takes place here every
October.
